Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan honoured Resul Pookutty

Resul Pookutty honoured by his peers in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 6: After string of felicitations across the globe after winning Oscar for sounding recording in Slumdog Millionaire, Resul Pookutty was felicitated by his own colleagues in the film industry on Tuesday night.

The Western India Motion Pictures & TV Sound Engineer’s Association honoured Resul Pookutty for creating history at the Academy Awards this year. At a glittering function held at the Country Club at Andheri, Resul was honoured by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. Lauding his hard work and dedication towards his work for years, Bachchan recalled, “Resul created magic for his film Black. He had so much patience and the results showed it. Everyone in the industry knows how disciplined he is when it comes to work.”

An emotional Resul told the gathering, “I am very touched and honoured by this gesture. I have dedicated my Oscar to India and my city Mumbai because of its undying spirit. Mumbai is my karmabhoomi and it feels really special to be honoured in this city.”

Though hailing from Kerala, Resul has always been a true Mumbaikar. He studied from the Film Institute in Pune and never had to look back since. “Mumbai has given me so much. It’s truly a city of dreams.” Resul’s two kids are also born and brought up in the city and his family have made Mumbai their first home.

Apart from Bachchan, the function was well attended by other Bollywood and TV celebrities like singer Udit Narayan, actors Ronit Roy, Gul Panag and Dheeraj Kumar to name a few and the evening was hosted by the veteran actor Raza Murad.

Something Sally' s debut album "Familiar Strangers"

SOMETHING SALLY’S DEBUT ALBUM
“FAMILIAR STRANGERS”

Something Sally’s long awaited debut album, released last year in Norway, is released in India this month - March 09. The album is titled “Familiar Strangers” and when you listen to their music, it is easy to see why. The sound of Something Sally is unlike anything you've heard before; it's new yet retro, original yet strangely familiar.

Despite spending the better half of their musical life in blustery Liverpool, Something Sally has distinct warmth in their music. In 2002, the three friends packed their bags and moved from their home country Norway to the UK to broaden their musical horizon. Four years and three bands later they have a unique sound and fans all over the world.

Something Sally has proved to be one this year's most promising debut bands from Norway.

Only weeks after releasing their first single "Sally Can't Wait", they were chosen as one of Norway's top 15 most export-friendly musical acts in renowned music magazine Music Week. The single reached 10th place in the charts for Norwegian acts in week 36, and topped the best selling charts on iTunes Norway for several weeks. The second and third singles "The Taste" & "Circles" were also just as well received by the Norwegian media, reaching no.7 on the sales charts and were among the most played songs on Norwegian radio within a month of release.

"Cool and sophisticated… ‘The Taste’ is the perfect track!" - Howard Pearce, radio DJ

Smooth FM London.

Having held numerous concerts in many of the larger live-venues both in Oslo (Norway) and Liverpool (UK), and also recently in Madrid (Spain) and London (UK), Something Sally is now a favoured live band, and their fan base continues to expand. Recently they finished a series of concerts around Europe as Joss Stone's support band. At the present time they are based in Oslo, but make frequent visits to both Liverpool and London to play concerts.

With references to Fleetwood Mac and Sally's voice reminiscent of a mix of Annie Lennox and Sade, Something Sally has created their own distinct alternate-pop sound. Honest, catchy melodies and a playful approach to mix musical styles, makes their music original, yet so recognizable.

The album contains 12 great songs including "Tip of My Tongue" - a duet with British soul sensation Joss Stone. The recording was done in Philadelphia, London and Oslo.
